Rechargeable Neurostimulator Medical Billing Codes

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services are staying current with the times when it comes to medical billing. New medical procedures are created each and every day. Some of these new services are covered by CMS while others are not. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has decided to cover rechargeable Neurostimulator codes.

Effective on January 1, 2006, new Healthcare common procedural coding system (HCPCS) codes will be implemented. These medical billing codes cover rechargeable neurostimulators like the Precision SCS system.

The Precision SCS system allows patients some relief from pain by masking it with electrical signals sent to the spinal cord. Usually a tingling sensation is felt by the patient. This feeling is called paresthesia. With the acceptance of these new medical billing codes, many elderly patients can be relieved of their chronic pain.

Although the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services have decided to cover these rechargeable neurostimulator medical billing codes, there are many other services that will not be covered. Make sure you medical billing staff members are aware of what codes are acceptable and which ones are not. Different payers may have different policies for medical billing as well. Knowing your payers will make your claims get processed more quickly.

To prevent your staff members from jumping through medical billing hoops, outsource your claim responsibilities. Your practice should have one sole priority: to help patients. If medical billing gets in the way of your customer service, it is time to hire someone else to take care of those responsibilities for you. No one knows medical billing like a medical billing firm. Their one business is making sure your claims run smoothly and accurately. There is no one better suited to handle claims than a medical billing company.
