Great List of ICD-10 Resources from HiTech Answers

HiTech Answers has an article outlining a number of great resources for ICD-10 transition from CMS, Optum etc…

“The health care industry will transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10 codes for diagnoses and inpatient procedures on October 1, 2014. The final updates to ICD-9-CM codes took effect on October 1, 2013. These updates will be in effect until the ICD-10 transition takes place on October 1, 2014. You can find the last official ICD-9-CM code titles, both full and abbreviated, on the CMS website. For the latest CMS news on ICD-10 refer to the CMS website.

While October is many months away, preparation for this transition must begin now. Last week Becker’s Hospital review published its latest survey showing a whopping 74% of physicians have not yet started to prepare for ICD-10. In the article the author notes that “among practices that have not yet started to prepare, 84 percent anticipate doing so by May. However, 27 percent reported uncertainty on how to begin preparing, and 22 percent said a lack of staff, time or resources have kept them from starting preparations.”

The transition to ICD-10 is not something to be taken lightly, it will be very burdensome and will be very costly for most providers. My recommendation is to seek out as much information and assistance as you can now, to be ready in October.
